Welcome to FOCUS!
I would like to briefly introduce myself to the new
families. My name is Patricia Baughman. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio,
but moved to Atlanta in 1982. I have taught gifted students in Gwinnett County
since 1988. I currently hold a B.A. degree in Psychology from Emory University,
a Master’s Degree in Education and Gifted Certification from Mercer University,
and an Education Specialist degree in Brain-Based Learning from Nova
Southeastern University. I am currently taking classes to obtain my
Doctoral Degree. I enjoy learning just like my students do!
The FOCUS program is designed to help each
gifted child reach his or her full potential. FOCUS classes offer an enriched
academic experience that focuses on and extends the GCPS Academic Knowledge and
Skills (AKS). The program provides a wealth of knowledge in various subject
areas. We will explore units of study including but not limited to:
4th Grade– “Ocean's Influences” – delving into the role the ocean played throughout history, “Gold
Rush” – simulating life in a frontier mining camp, and“Connecting with Bridges”
– investigating the physics of building. We will also include an advanced novel
study, and I will continue to develop skills in technology, creativity,
research, problem solving, critical thinking and logical reasoning. Your child’s
FOCUS schedule will be: Daily from 2:25-3:10.
I look forward to all of the rewarding challenges ahead!
